So, what you're trying to tell us is that when we have a warranty problem we should take the bike to the dealer to fix the warranty problem. Gosh, that's what I did with my Honda and my Yamaha. You mean I can do the same with my Harley? Will wonders never cease? But when my Honda ran hot, the dealer said it was because of EPA even though it was water cooled. So I changed the exhaust, put in larger carb jets, changed the position of the needle in the carb, took out the intake and cut out the blocked area, changed the thermostat and how about that, no more heat issues. Was it Honda or EPA? Honda wouldn't make the necessary changes because of EPA. Do you think Harley will break EPA lawsfor us? Do you think they should?

if it's an epa thing why don't all 96 ci's run that way? mine doesn't. mine runs fine and has never gotten what I would call excessively hot. and it's still under 1000 miles, when they tend to run the hottest. explain that please. my bike runs perfect right out of the box. if you want to throw money into your bike to solve this heat problem that's your choice but i'm saying if i had that problem it would be the moco's problem or they would buy it back, period. read the threadssssssssssssssssssssss. paint flaking off engines, seats wrinkled and torn, so hot they shut down while going 50mph, glowing pipes and heads and on and on....and these people would rather fix it themselves than take it back! whatever. i will repeat what i've already said...if they can't get it past epa without heat issues they should notbe making them until they have an answer. by law, if you purchase something it must be able to be used for the purpose which it was intended. if a bike is going to stop running at any time because of heat, especially on the highway at 50mph then that bike is not suitable for the purpose intended. again, the thread was not started to rag on the moco, it was intended to ask why people do not use the warranty to handle issues. the HD is God mentality is disturbing.

Well, I think I'm about the last person to be a H-D apologist, since I'm not a "Buy American" sort of guy. I'll never buy another American nameplate car again, because I've had enough experience with that sort of junk. So we have four Toyotas here, and they are as close to mechanical perfection as anything I've seen, and nice to work on also. No warranty issues, ever.

Same with motorcycles, except that I'd never owned an American-built one. I've had BMWs for many years and still do. And as cynical as I am about most things built in the US, I bought a Road King simply because I like the way they look. After riding it and tearing it apart enough to do routine maintenance and adding things like cruise control and an accessory outlet, and changing a tire, I have to say that there is nothing cheesy or cheaply-built on it. If it were junk, I'd be glad to tell anyone willing to listen. But it's not.

Harley-Davidson appears to me to be one of the smartest US companies around. It may well be that a big part of their success is based on "hypnotizing" people into continuing to buy their products. But to do that, you have to sell them something of substance. Otherwise, don't you think that GM would just hire away a couple of H-D people and get back to a 50% market share?

H-D hasn't hypnotized me into buying anything. I just plain like what they're selling.

Great post.

Now this makes sense to me.

I've nothing further to add.

All, have a good day.

I get about 5 motorcycle magazines a month. Every time they test a HD the quality is noted as first rate. It's usually the highest quality bike in the group for fit and finish. I'm on my 3rd Harley and I've yet to have any problems.

I think Cookiemech hit it on the head. The MoCo is much better in the quality department than the American auto industry is with the crap they try to pass off on us.

Here is my take for those who care: All my Harleys new or otherwize may have had problems, but like all machinery, can haveoperational issues. So what,I accept any and all problems, once solved, I am the one better off, since I now know what I have.In all my years there have always been those who complain, and those who don't.

Takes workers to assemble the finished product. Ask yourself this, have I always done the absolute best work, every minute of every day on the job? Or, has there been times when I've said ahh - good enough and let it go. Well if you've said ahh good enough, then some consumer out there is having the same issue as you're self regarding what ever product you produce.

Very true.

The unfortunate thing is that there are some countries out there whose workers say "that's good enough" alot less frequently than the American worker does !!!!

The EPAIS the problem. Putting the screws on a few murdercycles is not going to make a difference in solving their perceived problem that they are trying to take care of. They are a bunch of socialist government types trying to make up for their lack of manhood by using the power of their position to go after people that they despise; bikers who represent everything they are scared to do. I meet with these type of people all the time.Federal government people who think they are our saviorsbutmiss the mark almost all of the time. They are some real pieces of work.
