Bryan TTM, I agree with everything you say. My earlier point was that with a stock or slightly modified such as Stage 1, the stock pipes perform better. Of course with a big bored, stroked, etc, engine you need all the breathing you can get. Wide open drag pipes and no air filtration is the way to go at the drag strip but I would not rec doing away with the filter for the road.

More efficient or not, I am one that will sacrifice a few dyno numbers for the sound that I want, and the look I want.

yup,,,,,, for a heavy bagger, haulin more weight, and long tours,,,, Stock sys,
provides a better setup than aftermarket duals,,,,, many mag's proved that!!
How many mags do you haul?
ZING!!! POW!!!! ZAP!!!!! KABOOM!!!!

Not sure how many mags will fit in those magazine racks he has on the side, but he is correct. Stock sys. on a stock mtr = betta pwr
For the same reason that drag pipes with baffles produce more pwr than "straight" thrus.

Getting mixed messages here. I want to switch to a true duals with a better air breather. Am I going to lose significant power? Performance? If so why would someone switch?

Thats just not true, you lose low, mid range torque and they cost you hp to boot. The only place it would benefit you is wide open and by then you are out of your power band. you may LIKE them better but they are not better performance wise.
ORIGINAL: Bryan TTM

.combined with the correct intake port, cam, and TB, true duals perform better

There are a few exhaust sytems to choice from.Pick the best one for your stock or built motor.
Some people modify the mufflers thinking they are going to increase power and make better sound.I think only the sound part is the only thing that might be better. Why change a muffler that was designed/engineered for a certain set up?
For example.I just bought some V&H Ovals from my broinlaw.A shop talked him into shortening the baffles for better sound.Well I had them on for one day and while they sounded good, the both of them rattled. So I removed them and took out what was left of the baffles. They were both cracked because there was no support on the inlet end.
I ordered new baffles from V&H @ $55 each,broinlaw paid for half.

You don't lose enough HP or torque to even feel on most stage onebikes. Now if you arebuilding an all out bike and all you are looking foris big dyno #'s then yes you want a good 2 into 1 system.
I have a 07 RC with a Big Sucker and a SERT and a set of Rinehart true duals and 4 Hrs of dyno timeand I think this bike runs like jack the bear, no it won't keep up with my Sportster that put's 85HP to the ground but it works just fine for what it was designed for.
The best part of this bike is it sounds like a bad ***, it getseveryones attention, I got to ridemy bike today for the first time this year and everyone hears it coming and has to to take a look to see whats coming.
