Helmet tearing off my head question

Helmet tearing off my head question
I'm wearing a shorty style helmet. No windshield. New to this style helmet. At about 65 mph and over this thing feels like it's going to rip my head off. Is this normal? I rode a street bike years ago with either no helmet or full face and never had a problem. Don't realy want to add a windshield or go without helmet for now. Just wondering if there is something you do to help this situation or if maybe I should try a different helmet. Or should I just suck it up and drive on? I'm pretty good at that as well but would rather not. Any helpful info is greatly appreciated.

RE: Helmet tearing off my head question
Greg,
You have pretty much answered your own question......full face or a windshield.
There will be people that will recomend a novelty helmet but they are really no better than no helmet at all. The purpose of a helmet is to absorb shock by compressing the liner and novelty helmets don't have that. That's why they are smaller than DOT helmets.
Tell ya what though, if you try a windshield you may find you like it, I "don't leave home without it"!

Try a DOT carbon fiber helmet.
Half the thickness of most DOT helmets.
They run about $175.

If your helmet has a " Y " strap on each side, you can adjust the connector where the 3 straps meet in the middle of the " Y ". Pull the connector forward till the helmet does not parachute. Some are sewn at this intersection but mine is adjustable.

I bought the Carbon Ficer Helmet listed above. It's DOT approved and a lot smaller than my parachute Harley helment. I would highly recommend these.
PS I have had no problem riding my bike with no windshield.

RE: Helmet tearing off my head question
Like you, I started out wearing a full face helmet but when I bought my Harley, I wanted to get a different helmet. I had the same problem that you have but I figured out how to solve it. I just make sure that my chin strap is tightened down and if the helmet feels like it is going to roll back on my head a little, I just tilt my head down a little to compensate and it seems to solve the problem. I don't like the looks of a winshield on my bike, so I just made do with what I had and solved the problem another way.

Are you trying to wear a visor? If so, get rid of it! To me a 3/4 helmet is easier to wear without a w/s. I don't do FF. LOL!!
Good Luck.......

RE: Helmet tearing off my head question
I appreciate the replies and advice. I did just come in from a short spin. Tried really tightening down the strap. It does help a little. I don't have that adjustable y strap, mine is sewn at that point. I may look into trying the carbon fiber helmet option if you think it is a considerably better option. Thanks again for the help.
