RE: Windshield or Not....That is the question????
I use a windshield during the winter months but it comes off after love bug season.
I compensatewith a FF helmet and a mesh jacket. Still get lots of wind but also protected from all the flying road crap. Well the small stuff anyway

Funny... I bought an '04 Road King Custom because it didn't have a windshield. A friend loaned me a RK Classic shield when I rode to Sturgis a few years ago. Let's just say all those years of being anti-shield went out the window.

Out here in Phoenix there are so many rocks on the road that get thrown up by either cars or trucks, there's no way I'd ride without a windshield. I hit a bird with mine not too long ago. If I hadn't had a windshield, who knows how you'd react to a bird in the face.

Happy to hear you weren't seriously hurt. I have my detachable on most of the time, take it off every now and then for cruising around town and to remind myself how nasty it is getting beat to death by the wind.

Leave the windshields for the baggers and cagers. The bike just looks better without. Wish I could afford two bikes, RKC or SG with a windshield and my SuperGlide Custom. Did have an Ultra, which was nice on the long runs but this bike is a lot more fun. I have put two long trips on it, 4200 and 1500 miles, did not have a problem. I agree with the guys that if we go trying to protect ourself from everything that could happen on a bike we would be in a cage. Ride Safe.

Then there was that time about 19 years ago in the rain when the truck in front of me picked up a dead rat with a rear tire and promptly hit me in the chest with it at 45 mph. Very nearly knocked me right off the bike, bruised a rib and made me throw away aperfectly good leatherjacket. Couldn't get the smell out.
Since then I have had a windshield
