Get the detachable windshield for the RK. Once you use it a while it won't come off.
In the nearly 2 yrs and 15k+ miles I have taken the windshield off twice and rode maybe 100 miles with it off. I've wiped thousands of bugs off of it, had several things have bounced off it pretty hard prolly rocks, and 1 small bird goin at about 50mph on a back road. I look over the top of it,and the only time it bothers me is on those rare times hen the temp and humidity is just right it fogs up.

I bought a windshield for my XL1200 when I bought a Heritage for my wife. She loves hers. It's perfect.

Mine still needs to be dialed in, some buffeting issues. But it does keep the cold air off the chest, as well as the bugs, bird crap, pebbles, windshield washer fluid from cars in front, etc. It makes a big difference on the highway, too.

First 1K miles without. Bought a WS, had it on for close to 2K now.
Only time it's been off is for cleaning.

It's amazing how many bugs it collects, that would be otherwise on the tank or my chest & face.

Edited to add; I have mine set about 2" below my LOS.

That's awesome Topspin. I have the 06 WG and I bought and tried the quick release, but for me it RUINED the ride. I tried adjusting it but no matter what, just wasn't feeling it. I'm about 6'1" and perhaps my size has something to do with it.

ORIGINAL: Topspin

I said "NEVER" to a windshield for years.

Decided to try a Quick Release in October.

Haven't taken it off yet.

I now ride longer, further and faster.

Living in the PNW I ride with one all the time. Between bugs, gravel, logging trucks, livestock trucks, hay trucks, and farm equipment I wouldn't be within out one.

Ride Safe.

up until i bought the RKC, i swore that *IF* i ever got a harley, i WOULD NOT ride with a windshield. then, i was assigned a RK at work. that changed my thoughts REAL quick.

i put the full shield on if my wife is riding with me (regardless of distance, she prefers it), im riding 'far' or its kinda cold. for christmas, i got a short screamin eagle tinted shield (more of a wind vest, but it looks awesome) so, if the full shield isnt on the King, the shorty will be.

sooooooooo- i guess you can say i always ride with a shield.... but i really like the option of removing it for bar hops or HOT days.

I took mike off for a ride around town last summer and it was deafening. I wear a 1/2 shell and that may have been the deal, but it is a much more comfortable ride with the shield on - I'm leaving it where it is

They both have their benefits. I like riding with and without a WS, so I can't decide. I almost always wear a full face helmet, and live in the dry west, so bugs aren't as big of an issue for me.

Windsheild - check
Radio/Stereo/MP3 - check
GPS - check
Garage door opener - check
Trunk - check
Cruise control - check
Electric starter - check
Disc ABS - check
Air ride suspension - check
Nothing like "riding" a "car" to the "bike" rally.
And we get "concerned" 'bout gloves and chaps?

LIGHTEN UP, J/K
