I deciced to by buy a bike that had a windsheild/fairing for the reasons you mention. The bike has been hit by sand, small rocks a chunck of retread.
+1 I even rode my Road King once for a few miles without the windshield. Having to fight the wind at 70 MPH tired me out pretty quick. Never took it off again unless I was cleaning the bike.

Since I ride a V-Rod, I thought I would never put a ugly Shield on. I bought one to extend my riding season and take some wind off my torso. I love the thing now. Still have an unobstructed view, and the bike looks OK. The saddle bags I put on are a different story!

I like my windshields. Wish they were made better. Harder and more durable .More scratch resistance and maybe with just a little tint throughout. Everthing I see on the market is partially tinted or dark tinted. They need to fit as direct replacements to existing brackets. Heard that Memphis shades are a direct replacment on HD brackets but I don't like the shading I see in the catalog. Still looking for something better.

My windshield only comes off when I'm driving around town at less than 50mph. Otherwise, its on all the time.

I keep the shield on most all the time. Take it off for washing and short intown rides.

Once in 6 yrs, quite a record.I would not put a shield on if you like it in the wind.I prefer a shield now, little easier on the ears.Rode for many years without one, what did you say?

I think I got a windshield with my RKC when I bought it, I don't know, I'll have to look around for it. Seriously, if I wanted to travel behind a windshield I would take the car. The wind is part of what I love about riding. If I go on a real long trip I might use one, but that's more for the storage pouches I put on them than anything else. If you want to talk yourself out of riding, just start making a list of all of the terrible things that can happen while riding a motorcycle.

Ialways leave my windshield onmy RK. The only timeI ever take it off is when I'm cleaning the bike. I too rode for manyyears without one.

I only use my windshield on long trips and when it's cold. The bike looks so much better without it.IMHO.

I never had a bike with one until I bought the RK. I never realized how much crap pounded me(those baseball sized florida bugs) until I had the windsheild. I'm all about the free wind thing but prefer a sheild now. Get one, you won't regret it.
