A windshield wouldn't have helped but last year I rode up on an aluminum ladder laying all the way across my lane. I missed it but not by much. Grrrrrrr. [:@]

I have the quick detach, but it never comes off. Just when I think about it doing that, some piece of road junk hits it. I find it much more relaxing to ride with it. Large items won't be stopped but its the small things that can be bullets. I still get my bell rung by bees and other large bugs. Hope you heal up and can get that chrome fixed.

I bought my RKC because it does have the detachable w/sheild. My thought on that was I will be able to have the option to ride with it or with out. Here in the North east During the colder days of spring or fall the windsheild is invaluable IMO. Weekend road trips when I am putting on some real miles the windsheild certainly helps with fatigue etc.
With that being said the only problem I have with it is in the summer months and I am Irish with fair skin I burn really bad and the sheild acts as a magnifing glass and scorches me to no end. Loads of sunscreen for me during those days.
In response to the original post my opinion is every time we get on our bikes we take a risk. that's part of the excitement of riding the bike in the first place. My point is how often does that happen? With or with out the windsheild? To me it depends on the day. I'm sorry you got hurt that really sucks! Look at it this way - You will have a "tough guy" story to tell for the rest of your life. [sm=smiley2.gif]

1st off ... I am so glad you are ok .... that could have turned out a lot worse than it did.
Although I prefer the look of my bike without a windshield, I prefer using one for a few reasons. 1st and formost is wind resistence. Just tooling around town it's not so bad, but when I travel the hwy the wind resistence just tuckers me out after hours of riding. 2nd ly ... it's a must have in rainy weather. It's hard enough to travel at hwy speed with it ... nevermind without it. 3rdly ... bugs! My windshield has been known to be so encrused with bugs you can hardly see through it. And then of course ... 4thly ... I have had on occasion the odd UFO hit me. A lot of time I don't even know WHAT in the world just hit my shield but I heard it bounce off. In one particular instance it was rubber from an exploded tire while I was passing a semi truck. I would have been hit square in the face with a huge chunk had I not had a windshield. That thin piece of plexi glass has saved me countless times.
Althought it's detachable, I very seldom ever remove it ... unless I'm just going for a little ride around town kinda thing.
So, I for one .... (for the most part)never leave home without it.

A properly sized and positioned windshield is one that you just look over the top of, not through it. Still affords plenty of protection and doesn't hinder your view.
