ORIGINAL: bad_azz

Just curious. It is not something that I do even romotely regularly, but there were a couple times when I lived in Jersey that I had a choice to either lane split or over heat. and once in Tampa when I had thet choice to either lane split or **** myself. I opted for lane split. Some states are starting to allow lane spitting for bikes in certain situations. maybe someone out there has more info on the legality on this. so, what is everyone out there's view on this?
It is legal here in California and I do it every day. I can't imagine being stuck in traffic on a bike when you don't have to be, and the drivers out here are used to it to some degree because virtually every biker does it in CA. If you're lucky, a motorcycle LEO is around that you can get behind them, and really make good time in backed up traffic. I've commuted on a bike for 30 years, and in stopped traffic, it's not really as dangerous as people think. Now some of the crotch rocket kids do it when traffic is flowing normally, that to me is dangerous.

What cmhfguy said. I barely trust the cagers when I'm riding in my own lane! Other day when I was in my pickup entering a lazy 4 lane S curve, I noticed a gal in the left lane coming straight for my door. She was busy doing something to her phone and wasn't paying attention that the road was now curving the other way!! Maybe the thought process in CA is totally different, but here in MN, no way.

No thanks. Not to mention it isn't that easy with a bagger.

Lane splitting is an unnecessary risk.

I am surprised that it is legal in any states. Anyone know what the law in Georgia is?

Not a very wise thing to do in Georgia. LEO here doesn`t think too much of it and the way people drive these days may end up cutting your ride short. The good old boys don`t take too kindly to that sort of stuff. Myself I don`t do it and never have in my 35 plus years on 2 wheels. Watched two boys on c-rockets get trapped between two cars about three years ago in Daytona. Not a pretty sight. Do it if ya want to but don`t expect me to follow.
