Scooters
In the 50's kids rode cushman scooters. If you had a cushman with duals your rode a small motorcycle. Nothing like the competions mopeds. When that age group grew up they kept calling thier motorcycles scooters. Calling them a motorcyclewas not proper japs made motorcycles and Hondas were motorbikes.
Like they sayif you have to explain, or if you were not there...

being an old fart I can say the word scooter has been used for harleys
for along time back before a good many of you were born. Yes I still call mine a scooter..

Scooter is one of those age things, it is what bikes were called back in the earlier days.(60's) I do know a guy that has a scooter, I call him Scooter now.

That was 'round when I was a "kid". I guess I call my bikes "scooters" about 1/2 the time or more. And to be honest, I think the reason I changed at all, was because of what Mike is speaking to. Just easier to avoid the "whole" mess of BS. When I am around ppl who know "bikes", thenI say "scooter" with a big a$$ smile. I know they appreciate it and so do I.

I picked upcalling a motorcycle a"scooter" from the dirt guys I started riding with way back in '69. "Back then" it seemed like dirt guys had a ton of fun and really didn't care give a rats rear about "image". (i.e. Hung-up on looking/being "cool".)
During that time of my life, on account ofmy naivete, I used to get some indignantlooks when Itold a street-type "motorcyclist" his bike was "a good lookin' scooter".
Still use the term "scooter".
