Default tool kit contents

Hi everyone,
I am heading to Sturgis this summer for the first time and I need to know what kind of a tool kit I need to put together. I don't want to pay $170.00 for some tools I already have. If you have a grocery list of tools to take I would appreciate it and have a beer in sturgis in your honor. (When I'm done riding of course.)
P.S. I have an 04 RoadKing injected with a big bore kit.

Do a search on tool kits and you'll find a list of tools you should keep on your bike.

I carry the screwdriver with the different bits in the handle.
They also make one with torx bits that is a must
6" adjustable wrench
1/4" ratchet with a bit that will fit the bits in both your screwdriver and torx bits.
These should fit in your Harley toolkit so you won't need a separate bag.

Dennis,

Here is what I have for a 2005 EG Classic and the Wife's 2001 Heritage. You may or may not need all this junk, depending on whether or not you change fluids on the road.

3/8" to 5/8" end wrenchs plus a 10mm for the battery and front brake calipers. Same sizes in 3/8" drive sockets with a ratchet and 6" extension. I also have a 3/4" socket because that was the size of the oil plug on the EVO engines. I have a HD 8 in one screwdriver that has flat, phillips, and the standard torx drives.
I have a pair of small channel locks, a pair of small visegrips, and a 6" cresent. I have allen wrenchs in the sizes that are common to my models. All this rolls into a leather pouch that I made and is about 10" long and 3" around when rolled.

In addition I carry electrical tape, wire ties, a small funnel, a small flashlight, and an oil filter wrench, and some paper rags.

While this sounds like a lot, it takes up very little room in one saddlebag.

Most of my tools I got at the local pawn shop for about 1/3 the price of buying new. I would guess I have no more that 50.00 in the whole thing, not counting that pricey HD filter wrench, and the HD screwdriver.

Regards,

Bill

ALWAYS carry a spare spark plug and a pair of vise grips (they come in real handy if you ever break a LEVER).
I don't carry too much... but these two are Essential.

Oh... and welcome to the Forums....

I have packed quite a few pounds of tools and never really needed them. (Knock wood)

But Murphy's Law dictates that the tool you need will be the one you left behind. [:@]

Torx bits, a 10mm (for the battery), sockets, adjustable wrench, some open end and box ends, phillips #2, slotted.

Fuses, good electrical tape, blue locktite, zip ties, duct tape, bailing wire, tire plug kit (if tubeless). If you want, turnsignal and brake lamp and one passing lamp. (Again, Murphy dictates you will lose at least one of these lights.)

HD's Extended Roadside Assistance program. (Although you will get diametrically opposed opinions on that.)

Or you can ask yourself, "Do I feel lucky?"

I carry a screwdriver that has different heads in the handle but also a small phillips as the other one won't work on the tail light lens covers. I carry a set of torx and allen wrenches, spare fuses and bulbs, a crescent wrench, multitool, roll of electrical tape, a few zip ties and a tire gauge. It all fits neatly in a soft leather fork bag. I also have my garage door opener in the top of the bag so when I get to the house, I push on the top of the bag and just like magic, my garage door opens.

Doesn't anybody else carry snap ring pliers in case you have to change a clutch lever?
