Anyone put on an oil cooler?
I put on a "premium" harley-davidson oil cooler on my 07 Heritageand I got it all installed and it says to use a sealant to hold the chrome cover on. Does anyone know what kind of sealant they are talking about?

There are no bolt holes on the cover and the second page of the directions shows where to put the sealant, but doesn't tell you what kind. This is the cooler for softails not the one for FLH. Just wondering if anyone here would know.

Yes. I did it last season. I used Permatex high temp sealer. Holds on tight.

Called the stealer and they told me to use RTV clear silicone. Worked great. Had to find a 7/16" hex head socket to tighten the new oil filter adapter. None of the hardware or autoparts stores around here stock that size, so I borrowed one from the guy that works on my car and then I special ordered one in case I ever have to work on it again.

My thoughts for leaving the chrome off.
1. Chrome does not dissipate heat as quickly as a painted surface.
2. by adding a cover you slow down heat transfer
3. one more thing to polish, when you could be riding
4. cover traps dirt, making the cooler harder to clean.
