Do you run red lights or is there a trick to tripping the light??

I'd be very careful about using a magnet. Especially one that puts out a field strong enough to trip a sensor that's buried in concrete. Seems to me that could really screw up your ECM on these newer bikes. In this new world we live in, when most components are aluminum instead of steel, we're going to have problems at lights.

In my neck of the woods there are some lights that are simply on timers that won't respond to the loops in the pavement. I try to avoid those intersections when possible. Most of them though, my bike has no trouble tripping them and changing the light for me in a timely manner.
However, on my old 98 Kawi Vulcan 1500 Classic I had trouble on those lights too. No troubles on my 2000 Road King, my 2005 Kawi Vulcan 2000, nor my 07 Street Glide. I think the 1500 Classic was just too light, or didn't have enough metal mass (I'd stripped it down to a street rod) for the sensors to pick up on. My other three have considerably more mass.

They passed a law in NC that after 2 ligths on a bike you can run it. I don't know the law name or if it is in effect yet but a leo was telling us about it last summer. He's a bmw cop so I guess he would know. It's a big problem here as almost no light in charlotte turns for bikes.

Got pulled over for running a redlight like this on a Virago years ago in San Diego. 2:30 am in the morning, NO ONE on the road except me and another car several blocks back. Waited three cycles of redlight and then went for it, the car behind me turned out to be a SDPD (go figure, but he was too far back to pick up his light bar outline in my mirror). Explained I had waited three full light cycles, but he still wrote me a ticket. I had to go to court, plead not guilty and write a letter to the judge explaining the circumstances. Dismissed.
He was trolling, but I wason my best behaviorand completely sober; sort of a butthead in my opinion for pushing it. Maybe it was the Virago...
I used to bounce up and down on my bike at lights, don't know if it worked, but made me feel better and gave pedestrians something to laugh about!

In Pa we have many lights that are activated by weight. When I took the motorcycle safety course it was taught by a LEO and we discussed this.
He said to let the light go 2 cycles and then go through it with care/caution/etc. He did say that depending on the cop who pulls you over and the mood he is in you could find yourself ticketed but any judge at that point would dismiss it.

I used to have a problem with the old ones, but the newer lights seem to have fixed this problem.

ScooterTramp,
Very good post thanks for sharing that info.
I've had to run a few lights after waiting through a cycle or two and realizing it just "ain't gonna happen". Usually the Electra Glide trips them without any problem though.
The MN law quoted above is a reasonable model that all states should have.
