I didn't have problem with "extra money" but my first road bike was a 84 Magna which I paid 1K for. As long as they "cap" the costs AND have the classes available. I wouldn't want to try to buy a bike then realize it's a year long wait for a class.

Guess I'm glad I got my license back when I was 16. There was a 15 year period from 83 to 98 where I didn't ride (or even own a bike...got spooked by a bad spill in 83), but I made sure the endorsement stayed on my drivers license just in case I ever wanted to ride again.

Bluerose, I think it's a matter of registration really

parent could plop down 10G for the kids bike, but whoever's name it's registered under needs the endorsement regardless of who's gonna be riding it...If therider (kid)is then caught riding without an endorsement then there is a problem.
I do not (well did not) register or title vehicles in my childrens names. If I bought it I own it...it is in my name.

That'll take some squids and RUB's off the road.

How are you supposed to get a motorcycle endorsement on your license without a bike?
Take a MSF course? You can Get a PERMIT in this state without actually having a bike, and ride with that, but they only allow so many (I think its three) and they are good for only a limited period of time. Plus you can't ride after dark, or with a passenger (not a biggiefor most). Youneed toget your endorsement by either taking an MSF Course or taking the written and driving test with the state.

That won't work in Washington State -- the Riders Edge course doesn't get you the waiver, only the MSF will. However, you can get a Learner Permit with just the written, which is good for 90 days & is renewable once. At this time, you also don't need a license to register the bike with the State (yet).

Gunkholes, you're right, you don't need the license yet to register. I'd forgotten about that. A friend has taken the DMV test about 6 times and has renewed his permit at least twice that I know of. I thought they'd give you two renewals on the permit.

Sure glad I have my endorsement. You would think since you need a liscense to drive a car people would get one to ride their bike.

I have been waiting for years for the government to do this with all vehicles. If you don't have a license, no vehicle. It would stop a lot of illegals from driving. They have an accident, no license, insurance.........then everyone else's insurance goes up because of the associated damage, injury, and death they cause, while they disappear back to their country of origin.

It happens a lot around here, and I have the "In memory" patches to prove it. DON"T NEED ANY MORE!!!

They cross our borders illegally, and you think this law will stop them from driving?

/boggle

Only one thing will stop both...and that's more stringent border control.
