I joined the american legion because the vfw would not let me in as my service didn't fall in the right place
ameican legion if you look at the years covers almost everything from the civil war to today. as for the alr I joined a post 35 miles away not to bad a ride for meetings but found out that is was very clickis and very gung ho about things much the same kind of thing as a hog group so I don't ride with them much.. I am more of a solo rider any way and clubs just don't fit me I really think it is apost by post thing and maybe the dewer groups easier to blend into... good luck..

Hi HDlowryder,

Idid a quick searchfor NH ALR tonight also.
I didn't find anything on Berlin, but,
Idid findinfo on a NH ALR Chapter in Woodville.
That's just north of Lincoln, NH.
Still a long hike for meetings!

I heard a while back that a new ALR Chapter was going to form in the NH Seacoast area,
but never heard any more about it.

There is afew very active Veterans Riding groups in your area.
They're a bunch of Great Guys too and very dedicated to Veterans causes!

Rolling Thunder
Nam Knights
US Marine Riders
Combat Veterans

hope this helps

Hi Da Gumpmeister,

I read somewhere a week ago or so.
The article stated that now there are more Viet Nam veterans living than WWII Veterans living.
I got to say, it boggles my mind that a group that has lived 64 years after the fact and still mantins the ranks that can parish at the rate of 1400 a day.

We Must Never Forget

I am a past post commander and past district officer. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me.

As it has been said before it depends on the post. Each one is different. I was 29 when I became commander. Most of the legionaries were the ages of 60-90, I loved to share stories of the past. The education that you receive talking to a WWII veteran is one you will soon not be able to ever enjoy again.

Please consider it.
Last I checked, (this winter) we are losing them at the rate of over 1400 a day. That is an amazing #.
Lost my Dad in '97. He "never" talked about WW2 til I came home from the service. THEN, we would sit in the basement, Dad drinking out of his "fruit" jar, (God, I loved that ) and exchange stories of back in the "BIG" one and the "conflict" [:'(]

Hooahh!!!
I have been a member of the ALR for the past few years, and just recently went through some rough times reorganizing the group.
A lot of people like to ride alone, most of the time it's just meand my wife. When I joined the group I belonged to a local Legion, but wasn't really active. Ifind myself trying to organize events that support not only the group, but also the local communities. The group ended up being a great group of people. Former military know that sometimes you need to be with people that know not only what your saying, but what may pi$$ you off and why.

here are a couple of links to our ALR site. If any of you are either in, or thinking of joining the ALR feel free to contact our group. The ALR is a fast growing group Nationally, and like any group it's personal benefit is going to depend on what kind of riding you are looking for.
