This sucks . . . biker down
Well, a couple days ago, I stopped at a buddies house down the street who is deaf, and he has a brand new 2008 sportster in his garage. I thought it was his, but, he tells me that it belongs to a good freind of his (also deaf)who he is teaching to ride and he is also letting him keep it there. I thought that was cool. Well, the past couple days I see the guy riding by my house and around the neighborhood. You could tell he was learning . . . plus, he is deaf so I'm sure that plays into his sloppy shifting and RPM's etc.
So this morningmy wife comes home from work for a few minutes at 9:30 and she heard a loud crash and seen my pick-up shake violently fromside to side. She ran out to see this guy (she doesn't know him but guessed who he was because he is deaf) that just bought this new sporty laying halfway under my truck and his bike laying on top of him. She helped get the bike off him and came running inside to get me out of bed. (I'm off for the winter, and I was sleeping in today [8D]) I run outside to help him stand his bike up and thats when my buddy (the one who is teaching this guy) comes running up to see what happened. Apparantly, he made the corner real wide (50 yards down the road) he rolled the throttle and kept it rolled. He jumped the curb and took outmy neighbors fancy mailbox and left a big mud track right into the side of my truck. He tried to offer me money but I told him that I could not see anything wrong with my truck beside a few scratches and told him not to worry about it. My truck has a lift kit on it and it looks like all he hit was the tire. So I told him if they need anything to stop by, we shook hands and off they went pushing the wrecked sporty.
My neighbor who is a selfish old hag, came over to bitch and carry on that her mailbox is hand painted and very expensive, which I do understand, and wanted to know who did it. I told her I didn't know the guy who did it (True...I know his freind but didn't tell her) but I immediately calledmy buddiesmom to straighten things out forher sons deaf freind(mom has been doing this for 40 years for him). Well, long story short, after talking with my neighbor and the 2 guys they finally came to an agreement with my neighbor to just go to wal-mart and get a replacement mailbox and I will probably help them put it in later today. The guy who wrecked was offering cash tomy neighbor for the damage.
I feel so bad for this guy. The dude is really cool from what my buddy tells me and from what I can tell. I mean the guy was literally reaching for his wallet to offer me money for the scatches on my truck (99 f350 lariat) before he had even picked up his bike. I asked him if he was alright physically and he just kept saying his heart was broke that he wrecked his new bike. I offered to help fix it since he doesn't plan on telling the ins. company and since he is a good freind of my freind.
Well . . . sorry for the novel, just thought I would share.

It sucks that he went down, but honestly at least he went down on your turf where you could be so cool about it. And thank goodness he wasn't hurt badly. Okay, a few scratches on the truck... At least the guy won't have to brood about this. It's got to be hard enough getting through life as it is. Good on ya for helping him out and by not giving that bitchy neighbor any info.

good lookn out, you should repost in the sporty forum, im sure there is prolly guys in there that would help donate parts. Im guessing most of the damage is esthetic and prolly alot that are take offs that people change an customise. Pipes, signals, bars, grips, trim pieces , air cleaner cover..

Most MSF classes do not have the capability to work with deaf students. I have had one in the last 4 years and he brought someone with him to sign whatI was saying. He did really well and passed the DMV skills test his first time. There are actually whole clubs of deaf riders. I am told they use their heightened feelings toknow when to shift, etc.
