Default Son's buying frst Harley... need some input

I'll admit that when I bought my bike (my first Harley)I didn't wheel and deal. Got the obligatory helmet and 10% of accessories. My son is looking to but his first Harley. He's in Oregon and looking at a Sportster 1200c OTD for 10,500 or aDyna Super Glide Custom OTD for 13,800. As for incentives, what should he ask for that dealers most inclined to give and in what amounts? His dealer in Coos Bay said he'd throw in the 1k service and of course, 10% off accessories.

Also, dealer quoted him HD financing at 0 down and 7.99% for 60 months or 9.49% for 72 months. He's got very good credit...do you think they should be able to do better? ( for referrence, military CU offered 7.45%/ 60 months)

Thanks

I don't know if he can do better or not? Sometimes there is more to picking a dealer than the price he's willing to offer. How you get along with the dealership, does he treat you like a human being and also how far to the next one should be considered. I'd avoid the high financing and go for the 0 %. If he has the cash for the bike he'd still be ahead by taking the 0 % but only if he takes the cash to buy bonds.

i just bought my first own bike at 22, since my dad wont sign over his Springer to me [:@]

I got a Street Bob. paid 14.5 (bank financed at 8.5% over 36 months) and the dealer threw in the 1k service and covered the first $1,500 I wanted to spend on accessories.

so, there is any idea of what kind of a deal a young'in like me got. hope this info was helpful.

Sounds like a pretty sound deal. I had a slightly better loan opportunity through my bank than EagleMark but when I read the fine print I saw that my bank had a pre-payment penalty and Eaglemark didn't. I enjoy knowing I will pay less for my bike than either originally anticipated.

10% off accessories is good for x1 of each accessory I believe. If he hasn't taken a Rider's Edge class or their advanced class (ERC) see if they'll toss that in if he's interested. The ERC will help him get familiar with his new machine in a controlled environment.

I got 2 teeshirts for $12.5 (closer to 15.3 when I get done paying if I meet my deadline..) by the way.. No helmet though [:@]
