Default Best bang for your buck in spoked wheels?

Hey guys,
I am seriously considering upgrading to either 18" 60 spokes or possibly even a 19" in front. Who do you guys think is the best bang for the buck in an American made spoked wheel? I'd sure like to keep it under $1000 if I can, but would like to hear from people that have experience with this.

Thanks!
Spike

I found my 21" spoked wheel on Ebay for cheap.I believe the vendors name was Detroit Wheelz. They used a repolished hub, packed it with new bearings, new stainless spokes and a new chrome rim.Nothing fancy, just looks like a new factory rim.

I actually got my 18"x3.5" front and rear wheels (80 spoke-twisted, powder coated black rims) from americanclassicmotors on ebay. It took a little whileafter winning (about $900 for both front and rear wheels, including shipping), mainly because the guy was building them as he got the orders, and was filling lots of orders and was slightly backed up. He was coole about it though, called me almost immediately and told me, and said if I didn't want to wait that long (about 2 weeks) then he would cancel the order and no bad feedback on Ebay. I wasn't in a huge rush, so it didn't bother me too much. He called a few times to update me on the status, which I thought was cool. The wheels were awesome though when I got them! I've had them almost a year now (put almost 5k miles on them), and they are running great! The parts are from DNA wheels if I recall.

Well, I emailed americanclassicmotors and asked him if his wheels were American made. His reply was that I had to spend $600-1000 to get an American made wheel. I saw he had the wheels labeled as DNA chrome (supposedly made in USA)but there were only a few of them and none of them would fit my bike. Those were not nearly priced at $600+ so it makes me think they aren't really American after his comment about pricing. Maybe when he is saying "American made" on those auctions,he is just saying that an American laced them. Who knows.

Could be. I honestly didn't ask him about where they were made. I did notice though that I didn't see any in the price range I paid last year for them (almost exactly a year ago now!)

Keep in mind I think "American Made" is a brand name wheel too, isn't it?

They reallyare beautiful wheels, but $2500 is WAY too much cash for me to lay out on wheels. I was thinking more like half that price as the very most I could ever spend on them. I am starting to consider getting a set of the HD profile rims. I seem to be able to find themfor good prices. I wouldn't even be as concerned about changing, but my rear rim is bent in one place from a gigantic pothole. Luckily it still holds a bead, but I'm not sure if it will when I change to Metzelers. It seems that the jump in price from what I can find a good used rear wheel for to what I can find a pair of profiles for is a fairly small one, so I might as well get a set of wheels. I really think Iwant some Black Bikes though.
