Okay...now we're talking!

Did the CHP also have to inspect it? Or just the DMV?

What were the costs involved?

The DMV charged us for the estimated value of the motorcycle. We paid about 11,000 for parts, so they accepted that, and the inspectors recommendations. Here is where I can't help, the inspection fees. Dick Allan, the certified inspector has been a friend and neighbor for 20 years. He owned the dealership where I bought a ton of off road bikes, Seadoos and quads. I think we paid him a couple of hundred that covered his costs and state fees. He had the bike on a trailer for a couple of weeks at his shop. He picked it up, and when he brought it back we had temporary registration. Good luck with the project, we had a great time building the Hardtail.

I've been told that you can get a salvage bike and use the paperworkfor it. Surely the state wouldnt give too many hoops to jump through[:@]... I just would try calling the DMV and asking what you would have to do in order to repair a salvage that needed a frame. That would be a good place to start anyhow.
