Exporting bikes from the USA to Australia
I have been checking out Harleys and choppers on ebay and it blows me away what you guys can get and how cheap they are. Does anyone know any reputable bike builders that ship overseas and any other info regarding bike export.I twould seem to be well worth the effort.A decent chopper over here starts at $40,000 up to $100,000 or more

I would suggest that you find out about emissions requirements first! Then look into a shipping company. I would think you could get a dealer to sell you one and ship it to you no problem, provided you can get it licensed and all that. I know nothing about your country, but here we have serious restrictions on what equipment any vehicle has to have. Good luck. Noname

I have shipped many things overseesand some parts to your country. noname is correct in what specifications you will need to license a vehicle in your country (very importaint). I know a company I have dealt with and they have been selling and sending choppers such as Big Dogs and stock bikes to Australia. What happens after the bikes arrive is not known by me.
Start by doing your research first. The next thing is the stuff you see on e-Bay might not be such a great deal once you get it home after purchase without looking at it. This goes for us as well living in the USA. It is very important to check out the bike before purchase! A fool and his money is soon parted is a saying we have here. Get someone to check the bike out first before purchase.
Once done you will have to have the bike transported to a destination (staging or freight consoladation area for more than one) than transported to either a company’s yard to have wrapped (for damage prevention) and than put in a container or dropped off at a shipping company who transports in bulk. I use a company that (I am also in the marine business for over 28 years) ships my boats and pallets of marine products. These Transportation Ships circle the world in the same direction and visit the same ports, there is usually two a month that hail my port in Florida.
I have shipped bikes to Europe but if you wish to ship to Scotland (for instance), the purchaser must pick the bike up at the nearest port the ships hails or pay an additional transporter (freight forwarder). There is no port the ship stops in Scotland. The price for shipping a Dresser is $650 from the port to port three months ago to Scotland. This might be the same/similar price for you to go by. I use this type of transportation as they shackle the bikes own storage container to the floor and there is so much dead space in boat transportation, the price is much cheaper as this is found money to this company (lots of dead space).
In the USA, anyone can be a freight forwarder if you know how to fill out all of the mountainous paperwork and have a method to transport the goods to a terminal. Also, please remember, the USA is also a large country such as yours so it is more expensive to ship from the middle of the country to the coast (for shipment) than it is from the town next to the terminal.
I hope this advice and experience has been helpful to you. Any more, please be free to e-Mail me at my site.

RE: Exporting bikes from the USA to Australia
Thanks for the response.I will have to do alot of research. A mate bought a 30 foot boat from the states,Got it home, used it for 4 years then sold it for $15,000 more than he paid so it can be worth while.I gues i would aim for a larger buisness with a track record.Have it sent over as motorcycleparts to avoid duty fees at this end. Then i would have to have someone at this end capable of getting it complied and registered. If everything adds up i still believe you have the opportunity to save massive amounts of money. Just check out the australian ebay site to get a idea of what we pay.CRAZY.

i understand i wanted to do it as well, Harley are dirt cheap in US.
unfortunately you can not :
1/ only bikes built before 1989 can be imported without going through the certification process
2/ you need to get an harley International model (active exhaust and others stuff added or removed) and you will need to undertake the certification process which is nuts (dealers dont have to do it for each bikes)
too bad, it would be nice to be able get a bike at half price.

OK. What about choppers. Ground up custom bikes. They are made and registered in Australia with American parts right now. Can you buy a chopper in the states.Bring it to Australia in bits. Re-asemble and attempt to register for street use as a australian built chopper.
