Default Slash Down vs Slash Out

Is there any difference in soundbetween using slash outs opposed to slash downs? Is the difference just styling, or is one loader than the other??

Slashout will make the guy riding next to you hate you. I know this because I rode from San Diego, CA to Laughlin,NV with friends when I had slashouts. When we got to our destination I was asked to turn the tips down, or I would be forced to ride at the back of the pack. Just so happens I had my Reinharts installed in Laughlin because I got a killer deal on that, a power commander and a dyno tune. I was smiling the entire ride home.

If the pipes change the flow direction so it bounces off the ground there would be a sound difference.Straight out the back no difference.

I've got a couple sets of the original SE2's for my FatBoy (the early off-road model that doesn't use the crossover pipe)..

The 80354-00 are the slash out (baloney cut), while the 80344-00 are the slash downs.

I prefer the 'slash out' model myself, mainly for the look, but there is a slight difference in tone, especially if you are standing beside the bike. The 'slash out' version is a little louder, but not enough to really notice it unless you really listened and compared them.

One thing I didn't like about the slash downs is that on some of the secondary dirty roads around here they would blow dirt and stuff from the road back on the bike, as the exhaust is directed straight down to the ground.

But for the most part it's just personal preference on which looks better to you.

I got slash outs when I upgraded to Stage 1. Just figured they would be a little louder for the 883. They are nice.

While it's a subjective call, I think slash down looks much better. Slash downshows the pipe's taper, and thesoot inside the pipe isn't visible.
