Gear shifter removal
Never removed any hardwear from my bike before.
Is it normal to feel like your going to break something when removing the hex bolt from the shifter arm? I know there is lock tight, but damn that stuff it tough. I was going to loosen the clamp and go up 1 notch for the shifter arm, but no matter how hard I pulled it wouldn't give and I didn't want to strip the bolt, so I left it alone.

Loctite breaks down at about 285F, so if you can't get a bolt loose, put some heat on the bolt head with a small propane burner, and it will pop off. If you are concerned about the flame doing damage on close parts, most auto supply stores sell the small fireproof blankets that you can drape over slose parts, but I've never needed them.

When you move the shifter and retighten the screw, make sure you use the correct Locktite, if you do use locktite or another thread sealer. The shifter should not work it's way loose under normal usage so you might want to use a light duty like Locktite Red. The Blue is a heavier duty formula, a real bear to remove. Heat is always a good alternative, but be careful with the torch.
