I put a corn burning stove in my new garage 4 years ago. Corn was $1.70-1.80 a bushel. 1 bushel heats the garage 1 day. This morning I paid $4.85 for that bushel of corn. But I would damn sure rather be giving my money to the farmer up the road than any of the oil producing countries.

I think Alaska is one of our 50 States. We also have a lot of oil offshore and in the Continental US that the environmental idiots don't want us drilling for. I don't think we will ever see a cheap alternate fuelfor many many yearssince it will cost as much or more to buy and produce then gasoline. It will make the far left liberal socialistshappy though, thefools that they are.

For every unit of energy yielded by ethanol, it takes 1.3 units of energy( read petroleum)to produce it from corn, and is nearly 3 times more expensive than gasoline per unit energy delivered. Also, $3B in federal and state subsidiesare given out to ethanol producers every year! Does anyone really believe that ethanol should be used for anything exept a mixed drink. This has to be the biggest farce ever put over on the American public. Until ethanol can be madecheaper than fossil fuels, it should be done away with period. Lets put that 3 billion towards better hydro, solar, and wind technology.

It is all just a marketing trick to charge you more for a vehicle that can run ethanol, more for corn and all products that have corn (all) and more for the fuel you use!

I love Capitalism.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Ethanol is in it's early stages here in the US but Brazil is using it like crazy and is totally independant of imported oil now because of Ethanol. The more I learn about Ethanol, the more I like it. The more I learn about the people we are importing oil from, the more I dislike oil. I'd much rather support American farmers and American truck drivers than who we are supporting now. Hopefully Ethanol will get better as the market expands and become more feasable.
Brazil uses sugar based Ethanol, not corn based. BIG difference.
Exactly!!!! Sugar is much more efficient than corn. =) Lowryder

Noname says it all from what i've read, i am a rancher, and due to the feed being transformed into ethanol, (which takes 1 gallon of fossil fuel to grow, process and transport a gallon of ethon, burn 1 to get 1, plus twice the emissions caused). switching to biofuels would require a lot of extra land, The demand for food is rising rapidly and population is rising, 2.5 billion will join the global population in the coming decades. This is going to intensify the situations where there are people starving due to lack/price of food.
As a livestock producer myself, this is already affecting me, since the price of grain is high because of the demand for it to be used for biofuels, the price of FEED for cattle is high, and the price of cattle is LOW . . . . doesn't make any sense to me

Your tax dollars subsidize the construction of the plants, and the cost per gallon to produce so that it can be sold lower than the cost of gasoline. Then, the cost of milk, cereal, poltry, pork and beef have gone up due to the reduction of corn supplies to the food market. The less mpg that it provides costs you. The increase cost to produce E-85 vehicles. The lowering of the useful life of the engines. Remember this. Alcolhol is correstive to steel.

Alcohol has put a lot of money into your senator's and congressman's pockets by way of the leagalized bribe known as "contibutions".

So have a nice day you have gotten it in the rear again.

Ethanol blend. I don't understand that if ethanol , added at 10%, would cost the same per gallon as 100% gasoline per gallon. Where is the incentive to purchase ethanol blends?
Here in central Illinois (read that corn country) Ethanol blends cost about 10 cents per gallon less than straight gas.
