Beanie helmets, worthless?

Beanie helmets, worthless?
I am sorry if this question is redundant but the search function is broken and I want to be sure I have the most updated information.
What is the current status of the Beanie Helmet? I recently have been seeing DOT approved Beanie Helmets online. Yet, at the same time I continue to read blogs on how they are nothing more than a fashion statement with little to no ability in preventing brain injury.
If they have been approved by the DOT they must provide some type of safety but is itmore than just keeping the top of your skull from being torn off by passing concrete.
If anyone has updated information on the current status of these helmets ability to actually prevent damage to you brain please share. Thank you in advance for any information.

RE: Beanie helmets, worthless?
If a design of any item falls under the stringent guidelines of the DOT regulations, it is given a sticker. There are many designs of helmetsthat have a varied history of results. Logically, the more coverage the better your chances of protection from impact. Pretty simple logic.
I don't think you can assume any DOT certified helmet will prevent every injury....only that it will diminish the chances ofinjury. There are countless angles and levels of force of potential impact. There is no helmet that will do the trick under any or every circumstance.

1/2 helemts aren't as safe as 3/4 or full as in the fact it doesn't protect your face or side of your head. But even with that I still wear a 1/2 helmet. It is better than nothing.
If it says DOT on the back it has met the requirments to safely protect the melon.
I tried on a Carbon Fiber helemt yesterday and it WAS NICE!

My gripe with half helmets is the fact that they can move on your head. I suppose any helmet can if it doesn't fit correctly but less coverage equals more likely to slip. Not only that but I think they look goofy how they sit on top of your head instead of around your head.

I didn't know that but as this site says you're right;

I wear a HD 1/2 helmet and DOT or not I don't think I'd go any smaller. I have a friend who is an ER doctor and he says that when a rider comes in with a fractured skull it always follows the lines of the helmet. You can pretty much draw a line around your helmet and tell where your head will be cracked. Strange.

The half helemt I wear now fits very well and doesn't move around too much. And, it doesn't just sit on the top of your head as bad as most.
The carbon fiber and kevlar helmets are DOT approved and look like the not DOT approved ones. They fit around your head very well.
