If you don't have a service manual for your bike and want to do the 5k,10k service yourself it is a good idea to get one. Try ebay. They usually run about $40. Also, look in the tech forums for better advice on this subject. The DIY forums will have a post on clutch adjustment that is fairly easy as well.

Very simple to do. But keep receipts for the oil and filter and gaskets to prove to HD that the service was done. The owners manual id's the other things to check. A couple of issues back in American Iron Mag. they did an excelant article with photos on what and how to do.

Once you do it, you will wonder how the he-l the HD dealers can charge what they do.

You only need to check the primary and final drive belt. And what do you think the odds are that the mechanic skipped that at the 1 and 5K. Because they know that it can go a long time before an actual adjustment is needed.

In addition to the Service Manual, I recommend the Fix My Hog DVD. It walks you through all the standard service procedures and offers tips and tricks to make things easier. http://www.fixmyhog.com/

If you're going to work on the bike yourself, the service manual is a good investment.
