05lowrider, My instructor was always telling me the same thing in my MSF class, but I may not of caught on huh! I know I watch the front wheel to much, thanks for the reminder.

 

One thing I do to stay in practice between rides is a lot of low speed manuvers. I do left turns, right turns, all at low speeds, sometimes using just one hand and the rear brake, the I bump out of the turn and turn up the rpms. Slow down and do it again and again.

One problem I've noticed with guys riding RK and EG's is that once the front fork gets past a certain point, it plows in, and causes the problem you talk about. I've seen it happen time and again.

A suggestion on those low speed turns is to plant your butt to outside of the turn, opposite your turn. That helps keeps the bike more upright. At higher speeds you do a "bump" opposite the way you want to turn; i.e. turning right - bump left. This causes the bike to fall "into" the turn.

You got a nice bike, keep the skid marks off the paint. Besides, a "Heavy Bike", you can push a hemoroid trying to catch it.

 

kolni, this is while setting at stop sign or light, I'm using the brake so I do not roll back in to vehicles behind me.

 

What's wrong with having a 2wheeled vehicle fall? I've been riding for a tad over 50 years now and the only thing I've discovered is that some fall over easier than others, but they all WILL fall at sometime.

 

LOL! On the hemoroid tell me about it, on the first one I ripped my left hamstring, no riding for a month.

 

Get out in the parking lot and practice more.Keep at until it all becomes automatic and you become comfortable. Just my 2 cents.

 

Buy the DVD "Ride Like a Pro V". I consider myself a good rider with years of experience on all kinds of bikes and I think it was worth watching.
Bicycle, dirt bikes, jap bikes it's all relevent.
I don't particularly agree with the part about clutching in the "friction zone" (kind of hard on the clutch IMO) but it definetly works. Practice makes perfect.

 

Make a mental note of everything that happen when you almost drop the bike then STOP doing the mistakes you made. Example... On a up grade on an exit ramp I turned my wheels to far to the right lost my balance and almost dropped my bike. Untill I get started now I will not turn my wheels. Make a mental note then pass them to your new rider friends.

 

Harley's (and most modern bikes) have wet clutches. They are made to ride the friction zone.

And I agree... Practice makes perfect!

 

Never come to a complete stop using the front brake, unless your front wheel is straight ahead.
