HDF helps keep me sane during the long winter months. While I'd seen the 'contributor' banners on some posts, I didn't realize what it meant. I'm in. Thanks for the tip.

I would consider bein a "contributor" of my time, put in a few hrs a week bein a Mod. I would love to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes!
Question for ya: Do the mods get paid for their "services"?

Neither the mods or Admin (myself and Grover) get paid.

Just made a second donation, money well spent, the info here has saved me a couple times from myself, and some major frustration

At the risk of being the only fish swimming up stream, what the hell does it cost to run this site anyway? Seems to me the members do most of the work... heck, I don't even know who is running this, where, why, and what the expenses or income might be..

also, look to the right ->

ads, I'm guessing they are not free... so before I chunk down the cash, how about a little info, like what exactly is this costing anyone to host???

I don't mind sharing the cost of this valuable service, but not if there is really no cost to anyone to run it... 8-]
Well, I of anyone here can probably get the best guess. I can tell you it's not cheap. I can also tell you that unless you advertise here, you'll never know how much HDF brings in advertiser dollars.

This site has to run on a dedicated server. I have no idea how much disk space this site takes up, but I can guess how much bandwidth it uses based on the traffic #'s I got from Amanda when I first advertised here over a year ago. I bet it's nearly a Terabyte, or 1024 GB. Dedicated servers with this much bandwidth cost on average $300/month. Required disk space and CPU load only increase that cost.

There's also administrative costs. God knows how much that is.

Are you ever going to get a solid #? Only if you are a serious buyer.

Is HDF losing money? Not hardly! If it were, it wouldn't have been the target of a buyout by a large auto conglomerate. It also wouldn't be here!

Is a donation worth it? That's up to you. Only you can decide that.
