Fiamm Freeway blaster.....

Fiamm Freeway blaster.....
I got one of the low tone freeway blasters today & installed it on my 06. Gave it a few toots & it didn't sound any louder than the stock horn. Put the stock back in & gave it a toot. Backin wentthe blaster. Other then a slight difference in tone, the volume is equal. What gives? Are the newer horns on a Harley louder? No difference in the two to me.

The human ear is a funny thing. First it doesn't work in a linear way. It works in a logarythmic -however it's spelled- way (a fact well known to hi-fi technicians).
Explained in down-to-earth way, to perceive a significant difference in volume, the volume must double.
Moreover, sound energy is frequency dependant. Even if it APPEARS to be as loud, a low frequency horn is louder, and, above all, may be heard from a much greater distance.
Ever wondered why fog horns go BWOOOOOoooooo instead of TWEEEEEET?

I believe that harley did start putting a better hornon the bikes. my 05 softail horn was a plastic POS, wouldn't even work most the time and was weak when it did work. went with the blaster and got good results. the horn on my 06 RK sounds like the blaster.

Do an empirical study in your neighborhood on two different midnights. Set up the study with original horn, honk for 2-3 minutes see how many lights go on, than repeat a week later, to give neighbors chance to cool offwith the new horn, . Run the results through an excel statistics macro, obtain the standard deviation, and you'll have your answer. Sorry, just bored at work today.
