Super Slab vs. Twisties

RE: Super Slab vs. Twisties
I like the freeway for getting around town. If you're in it for the thrills, then taking the freeway around the Phoenix metropolitan area is as hair-raising as it gets.
I prefer to take winding back roads on trips, though. I love hauling *** through some good twisty turns, or even just the scenery that's not available from major highways. Like an above poster said, without twisties it just wouldn't be worth it.

I always prefer the scenic route over the freeways. I enjoy tearing up the twisties on my Sportster every now and then, but most of the time I prefer just cruising on the Road King and enjoying the scenery. Yeah, I'm getting old!

Jim, I'm sure you know how I voted......
After racing through canyons for the last 4 years on my ZRX1200R, I'll always love canyon roads.
Riding my HD through the canyons brings on another form of pure enjoyment! The sights andsmells of the fieldsand backcountry; the pinesand vistas of thehigher elevations.
Youstill have to focus 110% on the road but youget toenjoy it all a very slow pace.
You can save the super slabs for traveling and the ride home from the canyons!
Great topic!

I like the State Routes - not Interstates. Hwy 97 or 197 through central Oregon - Hwy 20 in Washington just a couple examples. As for twisties - anyone ever ride over Scott Mountain between Callahan and Trinity Center?

It varies upon mood, but for the most part if the throttle is rolling I could care less whether it's straight highways or twisty 2-laners.
Having two close friends smoke deer two years in a row,... I gotta say I'm much more on edge and anxious on the country back roads. But hell, half the fun of riding is being excited, enjoying the adrenaline, and taking that gulp of fear every once in awhile.
So I dunno... I gotta just stick with the I-like-it-all crowd school of thought.

I run the slab to get there...once there twisties are fine........In Central Illinois as the corn grows taller accidents increase on the secondary roads as cagers run country stop signs all the time an if you are unlucky enough to be at the wrong place at the right time well it "aint pretty" several crashes each year.................Marty.

I would have to agree with rockstar.Riding in Phoenix can be damn hairy. Too many red light runners on the surface streets and a freeway that is too croweded with spots that hit 75 mph + with drivers changing lanes without paying too much attention.
Sooooo, give me the winding rural roads any day.
