Default Flat black paint job?

Well my tins are finally taking shape and I want to go flat black but, I've got a few concerns about it. #1 is it a pain to keep clean? #2 should you clear coat it? #3 maybe I could powder coat them instead but does it melt bondo? Thanks in advance..................I wonder if we need a sheetmetal, body work forum?

If you clear coat it, is it still flat?

well as for harley's denim black...
1 easy to keep clean [in fact hard to tell its dirty] i use windex and it looks new
2. no clear.. although they do make flat/matte clear
3. the powdercoating process requires parts to be cured @ roughly 400 degrees...so yes it will melt bondo... however theres a product called "lab-metal" that is basically powdercoatable body filler

hope this helps

It will be flat if you put flattner in the clear, and the paint, and it can take alot of flattner to do this.
If I were doing flat black I would clear it for sure, because it will be much easier to keep clean.

I don't think Powder coat will "melt" bondo, but the baking prosess might pull the edges of the filler up.

i had to re shoot mine through the dealer and they claim that there is a clear coat, just different treatment. I beleive you need the clearcoat to properly seal and protect the flat black. I love my black Denim, from a distance it is tough looking.

You would use a haze clear to go over the flat black, I am a powdercoater, and I would not reccomend powder coating bondo. There would be a lot of variation in material temp. and you want to have even temp or the cure will vary. Ever think about doing it the old school (i hate that term) way? Flat rattle can BBQ paint! I have seen some rides that were rattled and they looked awesome!!

Count one ol' geezr in with motordrum. Beings how he doesn't care for the "ol' school" monicre, how 'bout, "back in theday" they used rattle can flat back. They look great, and are VERY easy to touch up. Not to mention - $$$$ BTW j/k motordrum

I've been seriously debating the rattle can approach. Fixed a few truck fenders and fender flairs that way. Just wondering about spilling gas on the tank? They make a 3 part kit called hot rod black thats only 60 clams. Or my other idea was to P/C the front and rear and just paint the tank because its the only thing that needs some serious bondo.
