Default ye olde Deluxe..

As many of us know there are various bikes that are considered by many to be chick or girls bikes. The Sportster,Deluxe,Rocker,Goldwings and others. The Deluxe is one that, except for the Sportster(skirtster), seems to draw those kind of comments a lot.
So on the February page of my HD calendar there is a beautiful EL from 1948(the last year of the knucklehead,I think). And I noticed on the front fender is the old style Deluxe badge.
Now the HD EL model did'nt change much in appearance from 1936 to 1948. it is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful bikes Harley has ever made. And it is often described as the example of THE American motorcycle. When people think of the classic American cruiser it's the lines of the EL that come to mind.
So was the old Deluxe a chick/girls/sissy bike too? And if not then why is the modern one?

Probably the seat height. But really who cares what pepole think. If you like the deluxe buy one or ride one. I bought one because they are one of the best looking models they make IMO

I would say no not back in that era. I would guess very few women rode back then anyway. Hell I don't know.

I'm with this guy, who cares what the group thinks? There are many women who ride Ultra's on here, does that make it a "chick" bike? Who cares, it's a bike.

i never saw the deluxe as a girls bike until i got on this site. i just think its a great looking bike, for whoever wants to ride it. and if you have to toss it into a category, it looks more like an old man bike than a girl bike.

FYI - 47 was the last knuck and 48 first pan but with the springer front end, yet. 49 first Hydra's

As to the DeLuxe - if a chick buys it and rides it, it is a "chick" bike
Likewise with a Sporty, Ultra, Heritage, etc.
If a guy buys it and rides it, it is a "guy" bike.
Not sure what all the debate has been about. Appears clear as mud to me.

Can't really answer your question but I can say I bought my Deluxe because it did look the closest to those old classic HD's IMO.

LOL, for sure! Not sure why or how this'compartmentalizing' gets started on the internet...

Maybe if a bike (model not withstanding)is painted pink w/flowers, then maybe it's a 'girls bike'.
