My dad passed away a few weeks ago. I've been going through old photos with my mom and came across this motorcycle photo. I think the photo was taken in the early 1960's. My older brother, (now in his mid 60's), says he thinks it is the Sportster dad owned.

Can you help me identify this bike? Is it even a Harley?

I don't know what it is, but I'd give my hind teef to have one now. What a cool looking bike. I bet your dad was tha man with that ride.

I am by no means an old bike expert. I was curious though, so I pulled out a Harley history book that I have and took a look. That bike looks like it might be a KHK- a precursor to the sportster. My book is not complete- it's just a coffee table sort of book, but your dad's bike matches the picture of the 1956 KHK. I don't know how long Harley made this bike or any more details. There are some people around here that actually know what they are talking about, I'm sure they'll stop by soon.

 

Its an old K model. Predecessor to the Sportster. Not sure the year. They made them from 52-56.

 

My coffee table book has a picture of a 1956 Model K. Looks like the one in your picture.
