Riding with a buddy, I use the Bronx chain and two big shackle locks frame-to-frame. He takes his key, I take mine so we can leave on our own if and when the time comes. Riding alone, I find something to chain the frame to. So far, so good but that chain and locks combo weighs a bunch.

I lock the forks and try to park it in an area that is visible from where I or others might be. I used a generic cover. Otherwise I just keep my insurance paid up and don't worry about it.

Professional thieves are not worried about all these chains and cables and disk locks etc. The pros ride up with a van or truck and a few guys jump out, pick your bike up and put it in the back of their vehicle. They are gone in seconds. They will deal with your chains/cables/locks etc at a later time in a safe (for them) location.

You are not going to beat that system unless you chain your frame to tree. And then they might just clip the chain, pick the bike up, etc. Your chain added 5 seconds to their overall time. A chain might be a good deterrent to a crackhead thief, but not to the pro.

A couple of years ago there were four bikes stolen out of my area. All speed bikes. According to the cops the thieves did exactly what I described above.

True, but the perspective is a tad off and that is a tiny girl.

We use a cobra links cable. Hard to defeat fast. Bikes are chained together frame to frame. If camping bikes sleep next to us. Chained together. Light sleeper with a pistol makes bike theft risky for everyone but it works. If we are staying in a motel bikes stay in the room or we find another motel if we can't get them in the room. Bikes sleep in the room. If we trailer for some reason the bikes are not left in the trailer at a motel. Too easy to steal truck and trailer. When in public bikes are always in sight or someone is left to watch them. Seems like a lot of bother but its not. We have done it so long. Still could get motorcycles stolen but the idea is to make it not worth the trouble.

Seems a bull mastiff.
I've personally seen some males weighing over 200 pounds solid muscle.
The woman who bred them once complained that one of them ate her kitchen table!!! [:-]

If I go to a bike gathering where I have to "lock up my bike" because I don't trust the people at the group gathering......I don't go to that group.

Otherwise, I park it, take the keys out and walk away. If someone takes my bike over everyone elses...well, I guess they needed it more than I did, and I have insurance.
Sportsters aren't worth that much so I think your bike is safe. Besides, how manny girls steal Harleys?
