I use a 3/4 with a flip-down face shield (In fact a Harley Jet II). It gives me a bit more protection then an open face from getting nailed in the face with bugs.
In the winter I put a scarf, neck warmer, or some other facial/neck cover to abate the cold air from chilling my neck and chin.
I've also been looking at the Shoei 3/4.

I wear a shorty. It gets too hot for a full down here. Other guys will say that it isn't that bad but, been there done that. I'll wear a full in the winter to stave off the cold. It's all up to you though.

Spend the money on a good full-face and make sure it's sized properly. I picked up an Arai Vector at Bike Week last year. Had one of the guys from Arai size my head and help me select the right helmet. Since I got it my half helmet has done nothing but collect dust. As for temps, rode with it in the high 90's and the venting made it quite bearable. If it gets too hot, you can always pop off the faceshield and ride with it open. It doesn't give you all the protection you'd have with the faceshield on, but it still provides protection to your lower face.

Very nice helmet, but suggested retail around $481? I know my head is worth that much, but the price really bites. Hundreds of bucks for many new helmets though...

Roof Boxer V (flip-up), works as a full-face when it's cold and as a 3/4 when it's warm ... perfect. Also works great for guys w/glasses since you can flip the chin bar up when putting it on ... no need to take off the glasses.

I have all kinds of helmuts from a skid lid to a full face. It depends on the weather and where I am riding dictates which one I use. I wear one always and I even live in a state which has a no helmut law.

Strange that the first one said he uses a full face because of glasses. That's exactly the reason I WON'T wear a full face. It's a pain to take 'em off, and get 'em on. Course there are other reasons to hate a full face also. Individual choice is the answer.
I only wear 3/4 all year. I can breathe, and sneeze, and see, and talk, and my ears are covered. If you have to wear a helmet, which I've had to do for the last 20 years, it's ok.
