Helmets - Full face vs. 3/4 vs. shorty

RE: Helmets - Full face vs. 3/4 vs. shorty
I've got a HJC full face. I also have a HD half helmet with the leather around the neck. In the cold you can't beat the full face. I've gotten use to it and like it. Seems I have to turn my head a little more when looking back.

I live in the northeast as well and wear a shorty (DOT approved) for 99% of all my riding. I even wear this helmet on several long trips (1,000 - 1,500 mile weekends)every year. I rarely put on the full-face helmet. The only time the full face comes out if it is below 35 degrees and I want to keep the face warm. The bugs, especially the June Bugs, are just a part of the ride (I'm tall enough the I still get several bugs over the windshield). The worst experience was my trip to Rolling Thunder last year. Just outside Syracuse, a bee got trappedbehind my the lensof my glasses. That is the fastest I have ever gotten to the side of the road and got the glasses off.

Strange that the first one said he uses a full face because of glasses. That's exactly the reason I WON'T wear a full face. It's a pain to take 'em off, and get 'em on. Course there are other reasons to hate a full face also. Individual choice is the answer.
I only wear 3/4 all year. I can breathe, and sneeze, and see, and talk, and my ears are covered. If you have to wear a helmet, which I've had to do for the last 20 years, it's ok.

Well right off the bat I'll just get it out there,....
I wear a half German skid lid,..non dot....
because if I go down,.....I wanna go down hard,......and hopefully my brains'll get to see some daylight! If I don't hit my head,....I'm gonna remove my helmet and head-butt the asphalt several times until I at least have a severe concussion.[8D] thats the way I roll baby!!!.....

I originally got a HJC Symax full face so I could pull it on with my glasses in place. Anymore tho, it's left home in place of my HD Spoiler half helmet. If I'm going on a long trip with potential for bad weather, I may take it in my T-bag - makes a good backrest in there. Rain, bugs, rocks, - hard plastic ice-chest lid - been hit lots of times, but wearing the half helmet is my choice, my risk. Somehow it suits the image, and we all know that is paramount.

http://www.carbonfiberhelmets.com/noveltyhelmets.htm non DOT it gives the rider a nice tight clean looking helmet its like wearing a pull over cap, light and tight to your skull.Avoid wearing a big pot on your head at all costs.

Full face always. But my son got me a Bell Drifter. So I have to use it. Maybe short rides from the camp ground into Sturgis this year.[sm=goodidea.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]
