Default Washing bike at car wash with hose... QUESTION.

Yep. VEEEEEERY rookie question. Anyway:
Do I have to let the engine cool down? It doesn't sound too smart to spray cold water on hot metal.

99 Don't do it!!! Those high pressure hoses will really make a mess of things!!!!! Better off to wash with bucket and cloth than use those car wash hoses.
Just my 2 cents.

I have been using the coin op car wash for many years and wonder why so many people make a difficult task out of washing their bikes. Putting that aside, yes, I let the engine cool to the point that I can hold my hand on it. I make it a point to not use the high pressure wand around the hubs or any of the instruments.

Just remember, your motorcycle is weather resistant and not waterproof. Lots of places for water to get into if there's any pressure. I don't even use the hose nozzle at home, just turn the spigot down low and let the water run. Be careful around your electricals, there's a lot of them.

Wash it at home in the driveway, makes a good excuse to drink a few beers. And take your time...so you can have even more beers.

It's about 1/2 mile from my home to the car wash. I start with a cold engine and ride directly there and wash it. Just be careful with the high pressure hose.

Wish I had a driveway, petemac...
I have, in my wife's country house, but it'd mean I wash my bike only on summer, 'cause getting there by bike on winter, between salt and ice can get pretty dangerous.
Anyway, no, I don't use the high pressure. I stay well away and let the water almost fall on the bike, rather than SPRAY on it.
Just wanted to know if I had to let it cool down.

Aside from the pressure issues, I always like to let it cool a bit too, but if you've ever been on a summer trip an got caught ina coldrain I'll bet youdidn't give it a second thought!
