NODDING OFF while riding SOBER

RE: NODDING OFF while riding SOBER
Well, I know this should be about the driver but I have never been in this situation but I should share what happened to my better half three years ago. We just finished taking a break and gassing up on our way to Sturgis. The temp was 112 degrees in northern Missouri on our first day out. She started talking funny and saying she was seeing purple colors. Just a few seconds later, I felt her bump against me and slump. I grabbed her and steered to the shoulder. Was going 75 mph at the time. I slowed and stopped while holding her on with one arm. I got stopped and put the kickstand down and struggled to get off the bike and keep her from falling off into traffic. I got her on the ground and set her on the trailer tongue and cooled her down with water. She recovered quickly. We think it was a combination off the heat and humidity and she was wearing one of those crystal neck coolers around her neck. That was the main culprit. She never wore it again and never had any problems with the heat the rest of the trip or on any trips since. Have heard other stories since of these coolers giving people headaches and dizzy spells.Probably came from China!

The Road can be a sort of self Hypnosis, glance around check the scenery out even if the same ole chit.. Take a break and walk around... One advantage to the 3.3 Gallon tank on the Sporty always checking on far can go before gassing up...

My cuz told me this one about an old codger where he works, apparently the guy was a long time HD rider, and had heard how comfy the wings are, so he sells his harley and buys a wing, because he's tired of the constant vibration, noiseand such. First night working graveyard shift, he's on his way home on the wing and falls asleep, goes off the road and lands in a cornfield. Luckly only minor bumps and bruses, and he calls his wife to come get him. The next morning he calls the honda dealer and tells them where the bike is and to go get it and that he'll never ride anything but a HD again, because the vibrations and noise keep him awake on the ride home.

[]I also work graveyard shifts. I admit that I did almost doze off while riding home one morning--what a terrible feeling. HHhhhmmm, I wonder if it would help if I take my shirt off like Geoff did?? You know, the cold air and all. Or better yet, I'll get a different job. To he** with not riding my bike to work anymore.

RE: NODDING OFF while riding SOBER
I've never come close to being sleepy or bored while riding, but then, I prep fairly well (coffee, sugar, uppers etc.)
Only issue I've had is an occasional blood-sugar level drop. I get the shakes, feel flushed and get weird sparkly vision. When I feel it coming I get off the road and take a five minute candy bar break, and get stabilized. Paydays are the best cause they don't melt in the saddlebag on warm days.

I have never myselfbut made me think of a good story. I am avolunteer firemanand also on the ambulance service.I live right on intersate 70 here in Colorado so we often get called to wrecks. One day call goes out for a motorcycle crash. Myself and another firemen arive in our rescue truck to find a man laying in the drivign lane and his bike (goldwing) in the ditch. The odd thing was that the bike was sitting on the handle bars and seat. Just like when you where a kid and had to oil the chain. He lived- thanks to a helmet but I still ride without. That cycle in the ditch like that is something I will never forget. He did fall asleep by the way.
