Ebay buyers
I was watching a couple of touring saddle bag liners on ebay. A used pair sold for $35.50 and a new pair is currantly at $42.00. The thing here is; a new pair from HD retails for 44.95 and you can buy them from dealers like Chicago HD for 20% off. So the current bid a on new pair is $42 and you could purchase the same thing from a Harley dealer for $35. The lesson here is do some shopping before bidding on ebay, or buying anywhere for that matter.

You are making a good and valid point. I normally see what I can buy it for new at a store and also do a price search of completed listings to see what like items have sold for in the past on Ebay.
I recently sold my fixed fairing air deflectors on Ebay that were the same as new. I put the HD retail price of the deflectors in the ad ($30), started the bid at $5, had $5.50 shipping, and they sold for $24.50 plus the $5.50 shipping made them end up at $29.00.. I'm not complaining and the person got the same as new item, but it's hard to figure on price reasoning.

Well since we are telling eBay stories......
I had a pair of old radios. I figured the value at $600. I put them on eBay with a buy it now for $600 and ran the auction for 7 days. I had over a 1000 hits but no one bought them. I relisted them the following week and started the bidding at $9.99 and they sold for a little over $900.00. Had the same 1000 hits. You just never know on eBay. I never understood why someone would pay more than you can get stuff for at retail but heres my theory. They get caught up in the heat of the moment and just don't want to lose.

Some people just gotta 'WIN'
I've gotten several hundred more for an item because a good bidding war started.
I've paid more, because it was something for Christmas and I waited too long. Stores were sold out and it had to be bought.

I bought my grandaughter a Fisher Price Harley Trike for Christmas. Got it from Amazon for $100 plus $10 shipping. Saw a used one with no box go for $130 plus $25 shipping on ebay during the same time period. As you said, shop around at least a little bit before you buy anything on ebay.

I’ve seen this happen before on e-bay also. People get caught up in the heat of the moment when bidding. They haven’t done there research on the product so they don’t really know what its worth, then they get caught up in the bidding rush at the end of an auction and end up paying more for an item then they could get it for new.
The lesson here is to know what an item is worth and set a limit before bidding.
Better yet if you’re the compulsive type, set a maximum bid for an item turn your computer off and have a beer. Log in later and see if you’ve won the item. If not stay tuned, you’ll probably see another one listed soon…
