Riding after the roads are salted?

Ever think of getting a smaller, lighter (like somewhat disposable) bike to ride in the winter? It ain't a Harley, but you're riding . . .
KLR 650, maybe?

Bottom Line,
Listen to all the opinions you want, but in the end it's your bike, and your decision as to when you want to ride....
Also, from time to time I'm up in the KC area to attend various meetings...
Maybe one of these days when I have some free time we can meet up and do a little 'cruising'...

RE: Riding after the roads are salted?
I drove from Nashville to Amarillo once last winter when the roads were icy & salty nearly the whole trip.
I had my bike in the bed of my truck & when I unloaded it, there was light rust & corrosion all over it from the salty road spray.
I don't much care how cold it gets, I'll ride as long as there's no ice, snow or salt.

as a former sporty owner that's one fine sportster and it would be a real shame for the front wheel to go out from under you at night when the salt dust didn't keep the black ice away. It's called black ice for a reason, then the bike sitsup at a shop waiting for parts. Most HD shops won't touch a 12 year old bike. There are a lot of "go woman" in snow belts that put their bikes away during the winter. Sand, salt, and ice are the primary reasons. Used to live in Olathe many, many years ago and don't recall the winters being so long. If you must ride safe, ride safe there are three people counting on you.

When there's ice/snow on the streets, I leave the scooters in the nice heated garage and take out my mountain bicycle. I got in 917 miles last January and I made me able to do a 4k ride to the west and south western states.
When I fall, it doesn't hurt as much.

I see 3 problems here,
1. 27 to 29 coming home could mean re-freezing and as mentioned Black Ice
2. If you don't get all the salt off rust happens really quick
3. 5 to 6 months riding.
My better judgement would be to leave it in the garage till the weather is better and the salt is gone.
