I've always loved the XLCR. I'd love to have one of those and an XR1000. By the way, in the latest (February?) issue of Cycle World, Peter Egan writes about his quest to find a nice, clean XLCR.

 

Awesome looking bike, though nota particularly a good good one. Needs major suspension work front and back. I still would own one. I would like to see H-D produce that XR1200 prototype.

"The XLCR cafe racer was a landmark in the history of HD. Released in 1977 a total of 3,124 bikes were manufactured at a price of 3,595.00. The XLCH motor was cradled in a duplex cradle frame, which was derived from the famous racing model, XR 750. This same frame served other sportster models from 1979 on. Keihin throttle carb with a return pump ensure the fuel supply to this 500 lb machine. With a high 9 to 1 compression rate on the XL and XLCH1000 engines, the bore and stroke remained unchanged."

"Even though this model enjoyed modest commercial success, in aesthetic terms... it was TOO advanced for its time. Now collectors are hunting for it, and have pushed its value much higher. "

"In 1977 the Cafe Racer running 61 horsepower at 6200 rpms and reaching a manufacturer's top speed of 120 mph, was fast enough. But the cafe racer was not a commercial success. 1977 1,923 were made 1978 1,201 and in 1979 only 9 bikes were manufactured."

I would love to have one of those. I have an 1980 CB650Z that Im turning into a cafe. Was my first bike and just kept it around.

 

Hauln azz... if you need any help let me know! i have been turning old CB's into cafe for years! i love the inline 4! great motor and fun bikes!

 

It would be nice if Harley offered a retro styled XLCR Sportster.I've seen a few Storz kit conversions like the one below, but they just aren't the same as an originalXLCR.

 

The El Cajon dealer in east San Diego has one on display. From what I understand it's never been ridden.

 

Gotta ask, what's a 'cafe racer'?
