Two way communications - what do you recommend?
I'm looking for recommendations for a two way radio/intercom system.
I'm really looking for the best price/performance for bike-to-bike radio.
I've checked out the Blue Ant, Chatterbox, Scala systems but can't decide where to spend my precious dollars so help a bro out on this one.
thanx,

For two way communic ations between different bikes, J&M handlebar mount CB is the way I went. Works great, easy instal, and you an talk to anyone that has a CB.

I don't doubt it's valid, and seems well engineered, but it's pretty conspicuous, and would spoil the line of a custom...
What about a small PMR transmitter, like the Icom or Midland ones?
You can keep it into a pocket, most have VOX, and you don't need any particular device on your bike.
There are also small portable CBs if you want to talk to rigs as well as bikes.
Also, consider what kind of system everybody else you want to talk to uses.
Here in Italy most use LPD free transmitters, so LPD transmitters seem to be ok, but recently PMR has been more widespread, thanks to a longer range.
Most riggers use CB though.

Thanks for the input but I'm not looking for a CB radio, I've listened to the idiots wheeling the big rigs for way too long to want to hear what they have to say while I'm out enjoying the day on the bike.
What I'm looking for is two-way, bike-to-bike and rider to passenger communications.

I just bought a set of Blueant Interphones on EBAY for $109.95 each shipped, will post a review once I have them and get a chance to use them.

Channel 8 on PMR is also for emergency/distress, as an added bonus.
LPD has shorter range but 69 channels, against the 8 of PMR.
EDITED TO ADD: Sorry, I assumed local situation was universal, which is not. In Italy LPD is 0.1 W and PMR 0.5 W, but in the USA both are 0.5, and should have about the same range.
So, check out what thoseyou want to communicate with mostly use.

I had the full system on a Wing I bought new in '94. I know it's a matter of personal preference but I didn't enjoy it all that much. I found that I preferred the solitude of peace and quiet. I have the same feelings about a regular radio which I've had and found I never used for the same reason.

Thanks Buddha4, I've never seen that unit. It looks like an excellent choice for sure but the price may be a factor for me. My son and I ride together and neither one of us can drop big bucks on these units but I appreciate you turning me on to what's out there.
