how to store a gas tank?
I got a second tank free from someone because it has a small dent. I plan to paint it, and if i decide i like it the stock tank will get stored away. But for obvious resons i'm a bit worried about doing this. How would one go about making a tank safe for storage? Everything i've heard says an empty tank is more dangerous than filled because the fumes stay for years and are far more flammable. So i imagine there must be a way to stabilize them and thought someone here may know. Thanks.

RE: how to store a gas tank?
A recently emptied tank is more dangerous than a full tank but you don't want to store a full tank of gas. If the tank leaks, or get gets turned over you may spill 3 - 5 gallons of gas. Best thing to do is drain the tank and leave it outside in the sun for a day with the cap off and let all the gas vapors evaporate. Then pour in some motor oil and roll in around to coat the inside of the tank to prevent rust. Drain any excess oil and then put it in storage.
