My pipes are just the right volume.. to keep me from gettting killed, and for occasionally setting off car alarms that are setup too sensitively.

Cheers!

My favorite reply in that link..............
[Where can I sign up to protest soccer Moms in 4-ton vehicles talking on cell phones while they drive? Have you ever tried to approach one of them? They make Harley riders look like the Easter Bunny.

"Concerned American"]

Priceless!!!
Ted, hehehehe....reminds me of the PSA poster below (from MSF media library)........

Cheers, Jim

Mine sounds just right. Alot of the report from my ride comes from how I wick the throttle.

There is a problem with the name of this threat. Harley pipes can't be too loud. We have Pythons on both bikes, can set off a car alarm at a quarter mile. Don't much care about "Loud pipes save lives" I drive defensively to where noise doesn't make a difference. I just like loud motorcycles. Oh, Wife and I aren't kids, I'm 60. Just never grew up.

One guy blew 127db on his S&S powered chopper. Wonder why we get a bad rep..but I digress.

My little factory piped inline 4 came in 1 db under the legal limit. What that tells me is that the laws are unreasonably tight.

Many places here have purchased noise meters and will pull you over and test the bike. Aftermarket pipes are not illegal but noise is.
they CAN NOT CITE YOU WITHOUT THE TEST! Mass Motorcycle Assn made sure of that, since in Newburyport they were citing parked bikes for noise violations because of aftermarket pipes. Thank God that A**H0le cop is gone, but Newburyport continues to be BIKER UNFRIENDLY
This has got me wondering. I'll have to borrow a dB meter from one of our techs. Gotta see what the V&H Long Shots will blow. It's pretty freakin loud, but as far as I'm concerned, there's no better sound in the world. Except maybe a nice thick T-bone on the grill....

Is there a distance requirement when testing, or is it measured right at the pipe, and at what RPM?

We've been through this post before, a couple of months ago. The responses then, as now were pretty entertaining. Do a search for loud pipes or under my name and you'll find it.

These people pop up all over the place and like PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals) they have their 15 minutes of fame and go away for another few years. And to answer your question, no, the bike is not too loud, but I'm working on it.

Rineharts on baggers! Great great setup. You'll like the performance even more than the sound.
