Saddle bags and security issues.

Saddle bags and security issues.
I need to get saddle bags. All I can carry right now on my Dyna is what fits in my pockets.
I've looked into the HD catalog, and liked the detachable ones, as well as detachable sissy bar and luggage rack, but they are damn expensive.
Also looked custom made leather bags, really well made stuff. But what concerns me is the security of what I'd leave in the bags. All one has to do is walk to the bike, untie the bag and take what's inside...
Any suggestions?

I use the saddle bag on my sporster. I have no problem with anything taken. That is not to say I won't. I have the stack on bags for the seat. When I am on an trip I have a small cable to wrap through the back rest and around the bag. They at least won't get the whole bag off. There is not much you can do. I have seen baggers with broken locks come to shops. If they really want it they will get it. I only put shorts, tee shirts, socks and some old pants in the bags. I keep valuables in the top bag in a ruck-sack. I can take them with me when I am going to be away from the bike for a long time. This way they won't get much.
I don't know if this helps but it the way I do it.
Good luck.

Locks on a bike will only keep honest people out. Anybody that wants your stuff will get it. I don't even have locks but I have never had anything taken (knock on wood.) And when I'm at a rally I just park next to a nicer bike and my bike just disappears into it's shadow, so I just go and have fun with no worries.

99, I used to have similar fears. Then I realized that the fact that I lock the front door of my house everyday has nothing to do with the fact thatmy househas yet to be burgled. As already posted, locks might keep honest people out, but they certainly do not keep thieves out. I only keep cheap versions of tools in my bags, old clothes, etc. Hardly a bonanza for any thief.

For what it's worth, I usually clean out my saddle bags when I've got the bike parked somewhere that I'm concerned about.
