Rat Traps! While I've never had an issue with anyone taking something from my saddlebags thus far, this thread did bring to mind an old 'travel trick' I used toincorporate (okay, still do from time to time) while on biz trips. Every now and again, I'd place and set those huge king sized rat traps inside my suit cases, garment bags, etc. while I was away from my room at meetings, etc. Knowing full well that if the traps were ever 'set off' that it would mean that someone was looking where they had no damned business looking. In all the times I had done this, it was actually 'set off' once in a hotel in Dallas. Let's just say that I had a very interesting conversation with the hotel's General Manager as to why I had reason to believe that a member of staffventured into my bags?

I've never had lock bags and never had anything taken. I don't know, I think even among thieves there seems to be an unwritten rule that you don't touch anything on a bike. I hope it stays that way! I used to even leave my jacket on the sissy bar, and helmet on the handlebars, etc. I don't do that anymore, but no one ever touched them.

I'm just thinking...who would take the chance!!? If you got caught in the act! I'd rather be caught by Mr Businessman coming to his car than Mr Biker coming for his beloved bike!!

The real theives just hoist the whole bike[:@]

You might want to check under your covers at night before you get into bed. Sometimes old Zed gets loose and you never know where he may end up.

I use bags from Leather Works with a lock stud and a small pad lock with ez-brackets. They lock onto the bike. This keeps out the tweekers and casual thiefs. I unlock the brackets at night and take the saddlebags in with me. It gives me piece of mind. Like everone says, I have never had any trouble with people thieving me and the professional will take what they want, even if you have hard bags.

Gotta agree with the rest of the folks'comments. I have the same Willie and Max bags on my FXDC as I had for 9 years on my 1200C. While they're looking a tad older, they're still in good shape and I've never had anything taken out of them. That being said, I put the more valuable stuff at the bottom of the bag and rags and "stuff" on top of it.
