RE: Anybody Crack a few Ribs?
Cracked a few playing hockey about a decade ago now. If you let them heal they will start to feel better after 2-3 weeks, but if you are a dumbass like me and try to play after 10 days or so the effects will last much longer. I'll tell you this much, cracked/broken ribs are not real fun to deal with.

RE: Anybody Crack a few Ribs?
I had cracked/broken ribs on 5 separate occasions in my lifetime. 3X from playing football, 1 from an automobile accident and one from a fall. Lots of determining factors affect the healing process. How many, which ones, how badly cracked/broken. The longest recovery time I had was from 3 broken ribs.Took almost 10 weeks. Shortest was 2 cracked ribs from a football game. I was taped up and playing the next weekend in pain, but pain free 2 weeks after that.

Sammi: You're spot on to watch out for pneumonia. I endoed my dirt bike a few years ago and broke collar bone, shoulder blade and two ribs. The ribs were the worst. My Doctor gave me a two-weeks supply of antibiotics to prevent pneumonia because you loose your ability to cough with broken ribs. I had a rough week and then started to improve. Three weeks later, I was back in the gym working out but at a much reduced level. ..................... BC

RE: Anybody Crack a few Ribs?
Well, it's been about six weeks and the healing process is underway.
I can breath normally and only have pain when sneezing, coughing, and sometimes sleeping. Dr said I should be fine by riding season.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that a round of lay-offs came through and I was included. Lousy severance package. Luckily I have been covered under my wife's health care program.
Now it's hitting the road looking for a job.
Just wish they could have waited until riding weather to lay me off .
Oh well, one can't grieve forever.

RE: Anybody Crack a few Ribs?
I've gotten fractured ribs twice from a sparring matches and as others have said, it's an annoying pain. I don't know that it hurts "worse" than other injuries, but the biggest problem is you can't set ribs, and you can't not breath, so no matter what those ribs will move and it will hurt for a couple weeks.
It's funny. Before the first time I got a kick to the ribs I would always sleep on my side. After having no choice but to sleep on my back for a couple weeks, I learned to sleep that way also.
