Y'know, this thread is what Evel was all about. Even in his passing, he's entertaining us. Reading this thread and a lot of others like it, put a big smile on my face. It's really cool to hear how other folks have grown up in the same manner I did, out in the Alabama boonies, with the same heroes.Men like Evel kinda do that.

RIP Evel.. If I had my trusty wind-up Evel Stunt Cycle, I'd go climb on top of the house and jump ya off...just like the old days.

Evel was definitely a "real" person. You can be sure both friends and enemies knew exactly where he stood. Honest and outspooken, he will always be remembered as "a true American hero!"
The roar of his bike's engine should keep the angels awake for a while!
Rest in Peace, Evel.

Graybeard, thanks for the photos and for starting the thread.

Thanks for the post, Greybeard. Much like others have mentioned, I grew up with the Evel Knevel stunt cycle and truck, as did every boy on my street. We also grew up trying to "jump" this that or the other thing on our bikes. No broken bones, but that was not for lack of trying. Evel inspired all of us to try to go the extra mile, and attempt things that hadn't been done. I think a little of that still lives in us.

RIP, Evel. Your task is well done, take your rest.

Bill, couldn't have said it better. Evel was an American Icon in the truest sense of the word and a hero of mine since childhood.
He signed my jacket in '06, worth the wait to shake his hand and thank him for all the years.
