Default Battery Tender on new bikes

Similar threads didn't address this, but that thing that comes out of newer bikes for re-charging ... to these battery tenders have adapters that fit specifically into these? Is this thing supposed to eliminate the need for removing the battery to re-charge or jump?

Are the battery tenders a universal fit for this?

All batts new or not loose the charge in time if they're not maintained. Yes they are universal (12V) since they are either clamped to thebatt terminals or attached permanently to the terminal's screws. Yes they do eliminate the need of taking out the battery for charging and even the need to remove the bike's seat when you wire the battery with a permanent setup (pig-tail).

I have a 06 FXD that already had a pigtail on it from the battery, just bought a Battery tender Jr. and plugged it right into the pigtail that came on the bike from the factory..IF your bike don't have the pigtail its a simple matter to install one on your battery that comes with the Battery tender Jr. since I had one on my 99 already I used the extra pigtail for my riding mower and now I can go out and change from bike to bike to mower in 1 minute..makes it handy for up north where it snows, sleets, and freezing rain like we have here...How Mimo would know any of this I have no idea, him living in a warmer climate like he does.[sm=icon_rofl.gif] Sorry Mimi, just could not resist that one., about 2 more days of freezing rain and I may be down there knocking on your door..

The first thing you want to do is set your bike up to use a Tender without hassle.

And, you will find that pigtail that you permanently put on is also good for attaching a 12v pump to when you're plugging an unexpected flat along side the road. (Also any electrical clothing
!!)

Busted!!!

It is not the cold I'm affraid here Bear, but I don't ride on rainy days, you may be asking yourself why is that... We have a 3 month rain season and I'm talking about serious rain here, daily! You're always welcome to crash by my friend.

Take care Bear,

Mimo.

Buy the Battery Tender or the Tender Jr. Extra battery harnesses are really cheap. I just bought 2 extra ones for $5.00 each off of E-bay, they were all of $11.50 with shipping. One for the lawn tractor battery and a spare, just in case. The original ground ring terminal broke on my first harness, $.35 part and it was fixed, but I'm keeping a spare just in case.

Gotta be careful there... The lightBattery Tender lead that came on my bike only has a three amp fuse for the 1.25 amp Battery Tender. That won't handle much heated clothing.....

100 watt heated jacketis gonna need a minimum of 9 amps, as an example (Watts divided by volts = amp draw).

I bought the Battery Tender Jr a couple years ago for a metric bike. I've used it since on a Gold Wing, Roadliner and now my Heritage Softail Classic. The connection from the dealer was a nice added feature. For some reason the dealer didn't tell me about it when I bought the bike, and I only found it after the first 100 mile ride when I brought the bike home for a good wash.

Not sure I'd use it to try a quick charge, though. The Battery Tender site suggests 5 or more hours to charge a battery fully. I've got a regular 12V battery charger that has an increased amp setting for quick charge/starting, so I'll use it if I run the battery down. But for plugging in for maintenance or a long-term charging the Battery Tender is ideal.

Sure...plug and play!

Hook it up in the garage and unhook to ride; simple as that.
