I doubt there are very many people out there that spend the time I do looking at used HD's on the net. It's kind of a hobby for me, especially in the winter. What I've been seeing lately is just blowing my mind.
You can buy loaded mint condition Harleys for way less than the same age bikes were only a year ago. In general, if it is a touring bike, I find if you look at say 04's, under 14,000 will get you any model, loaded and low mileage. 02's under $12,000 and so on. There are thousands of used mint Harleys for sale at greatly depreciated prices, with thousands of dollars in add-ons installed just thrown in. It doesn't seem to make much of a difference what acc. a bike has it will be roughly in the ranges I have said or it will still be for sale next month.
What about 03's are they holdin ther value any better? I bought my 03 Heritage (gold key edit. with a carb) about 1 & 1/2 yrs ago. It had 2,500 miles on it for $15k. Its got about 15k miles on it now and is still flawless. I was lookin for a 100 yr aniversary for a while. I figured it would "Hold its Value" better than say an 02 or 04...especially since (so I was told) only 10% came with the gold key package. Not that I ever wanna sell it....just wonderin.

ae4782tt, I'm afraid the 03's are not worth anymore than the 02's, 04's, etc. But like you said, you're not planning on selling it anyway. The problem with the Anniversary bikes is that Harley made so many of them. When I do an appraisal on an 03 it is priced the same as any other bike in the Blue Book, the fact that it is the 100th Anniversary unfortunately doesn't factor in...................on the other hand, in about 50 yrs, it will definitely be worth more than an 04...you just have to hang on to it Besides, it's still one hell of a nice bike to have.

I'm no expert, like Sam is, but I completely agree with him. I don't judge the market by how high bikes are listed, but by how low they are.
For example, if there are 20 03' bikes of the same model listed, it would stand to reason that the less expensive ones will be the ones that sell, if any do. Of coarse once they are sold people will have to look else where, but there are always new ones coming for sale.
Check the bikes on eBay. Lots of real fine used HDs listed with buy it now or starting bids in a range that only last year was a deal, they will sit for two weeks in many cases without any action at all.
Most Harleys listed on eBay don't sell.
One reason and only one.

I've been thinking long and hard about buying a used Ultra with low mileage but I really like the features that come on the 08's. You get the 96 inch engine with a six speed, Brembo brakes, IDS, new warranty, no miles and no worries about the previous owner. If I were to buy used, then build a 95 inch engine and add a six speed, that cost savings would get eaten up pretty quick.

I'm probably going to wait until July so I can see if they make any more changes on the 09's. If not, they'll be offering low interest rates and no prep fees to get the remaining 08's off the floor.

The thing is, You find a good used low mileage Ultra, say a 04 with a 95" or better, lots of add -on chrome and a set of pipes you like. You should find it for around 14 and you'll be hard pressed to spend a lot more on it even if you can't live without the 6 speed.
And don't forget, the 08' may onlycost 20 large, but that is just the begining!

Unfortunatly, this sub prime fiasco is just beginning....
There will be a lot more people in trouble as soon as their teaser rates go bye-bye...

Personally, I wouldn't buy a used bagger unless it was a 96'/6 speed.
The 5 speed is perfect for my bike, but it's strictly a non interstate ride.
Also, the 88" is a little weaker too.
By the end of next summer, there should be a whole lot of 07' baggers on the market going cheap...

I don't know what your bike is like, any mod's etc, but syain an 88 5 speed is a "non interstate ride" I don't agree.
My '03 has a sweet spot at 75 -80 and is smooth as a metric!
Easily busted 100 mphseveral times.
