Interesting post.
I ride Harley, my bike of choice.
In my MM I ride with about 60% metrics.
I kid with them and they with me. Sometimes it gets pretty funny.
But I carry metric wrenches in my tool pouch for them in case they break down, and I have had to use those wrenches several times.
But the other day I was presented with something I had never thought about:

We were at bike night at a local restaraunt handing out flyers for our toy run, and one of the older guys (like me) who rides rice commented on my eagle on the front fender of my bike. It is the one that the eyes light up.

HEre is how it went down:
Jim - "I sure do like that eagle, and I'm thinking about putting one on my bike".
Me - "I dont think I would do that"
"Why?"
"You're gonna put the national symbol on a jap bike?"
"I never thought of it that way"
"I did"

Call me what you will, but that was the way I saw it.

Yes.
Harley is an American owned company.
Harley is an American icon, like GMC and FORD and baseball.
You can argue all day that Goldwings and other metric bikes are built here, but in the end they are jap bikes.

Now, you may rant to your hearts desire.

So if an American citizen puts an American flag/symbol(eagle) on a foreign made bike he is wrong..
So where is your flag/eagle made? And if you have a flag patch or silkscreen on a shirt then you better make sure that shirt is made in America. And you'd better inspect all PGR riders and make sure any eagles on their clothing are on American made items.
And the US isn't the only nation in the world with an eagle as a national symbol.Russia,Germany,Mexico,Austria do too.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to put a US flag on my wifes' Vstar. Then I'm gonna put one on my Honda SUV.[:@]

Amen, who cares what you/me/they ride. Just have fun and don't let your toys become a point of contention.

I got no problem with Metric bikes. I startedriding on a Honda, many years ago. They build great bikes. They just have a different personality than any of the HD's. After owning a Harley for so long, I don't think I'd ever own another metric.
