Default Advanced MSF Course

Has anyone taken the advanced rider course? What does it entail compared to the basic course? Thanks.

Yes I took it and passed it. It is only one day, almost all of it is on the course riding. I think some of the obstacles might be slightly different. The other thing is...you ride your own bike. I like the course and will take it every couple of years (I get it free through the Military).

In IL you get 4' or 5' more to do the box! I haven't taken it yet, but plan to do my best to get'r dun this year. It fills up really quickly around here and they only do 2-3 a year. I also plan to take the basic MSF again this year. In IL they only charge $20 for either course and if you complete it (you don't even have to pass it) they will either refund your money or you can donate it to the MSF. Great deal!
Now's the time in many parts of the country to start checking. They'll post the schedules somewhere around the end of Feb. here, so shortly after the first of the year, I'll mark the page to check it every day, so I can get my choices. Art

The ERC, MSF or SRC, Rider's Edge excersizes are mostly the same as the BRC, there are a couple of excersizes that are different but, the real differences are the coaching points. We can work more on technique. We don't have to concentrate as much on range safety as you know how to ride already.
The best part is you use your own bike so, you can hone your skills on YOUR ride.
Take the class, with some friends, it'll be a fun day and you will pick up something that will make your ride more fun and safer.

Don't forget to put something like foam insulation on your engine guards before the class.

Does that mean that I should plan on laying her down??? I sure can't imagine going fast enough in the parking lot we used to drag them and stay upright. Art

You should plan on leaning hard enough to scrape even at those speeds. This is not from personal experience, but from people I have talked to.
Also, because of the techniques being taught, there is the chance you will drop your bike. At those speeds, as long as your guards are covered, there will be no damage... or so I'm told.

DUDE........DUDE........DUDE.....Calm down it's not like that! You are confusing the police training with the Expeienced Rider's Coures.
We specificly instruct NOT to drag hard parts. Although it's not out of the ordinary to drag running boards, especially on bikes that have been lowered. But only running boards and not on pourpose. As I said before, most of the excersizes are the same as the Beginer's Riding Course.

Did it this summer - was okay. I was a bit disappointed in that I thought there would be more "what to do" kind of class-room training. As everyone said, was the obstacle course on your bike. Did it on my Ultra with no problem. Been riding for 30 years, so course was a little let down. However, do get $50 from HD - used mine on my yearly renewal.

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't taken it, I'm just going by what friends have told me their experience was. Maybe they had an instructor that didn't follow the course outline completely.
